Section/Track One : Week 1

Monday: Art
  • Introduce characteristics of Greek art and architecture
  • Begin clay molding sculptures

Monday: Social Studies
  • Introduce and give broad overview of project
  • Video clips interjected into lecture
  • Assign groups and explain group project

Tuesday: English
  • Lecture/video (Brainpop) on overview and characteristics of myth.
  • Then read one or two discussing characteristics

Tuesday: PE
  • Review concept of city states used in Government lecture.
  • Divide students into “City-States” (Athens, Sparta, Corinth, Argos, Megara)
  • Show video on Olympics
  • Discuss what they know from watching Olympics
  • Discuss the 4 events they will participate in
  • Show video clip of long jump
  • Discuss technique. Proceed to physical event

Wednesday: Art
  • Work to finish sculptures begun on Monday

Wednesday: Social Studies / Media Center
  • Part of class will be spent Introducing students to the different materials available, such as print materials and websites
  • Media specialist and teacher will also go over what different technologies the students can use to showcase their presentation
  • Small group meetings and begin research

Thursday: Social Studies
  • Brief lecture or video on Greek wars and economics
  • Spend remainder of class on research

Thursday: English
  • Review characteristics of myths.
  • Continue reading and discussion (whole group or small group) of selected myths

Friday: English
  • Introduce “HiStory” project
  • Students will pair up to complete a day planner entry and a journal entry based on character of their choosing

Friday: PE
  • Explain the idea of heats used in races
  • Divide students into heats
  • Initiate mock sprints race
